General Hydroponics Flora Series: what each bottle does

The General Hydroponics Flora Series is a widely available three-part hydroponic fertilizer pattern: separate Grow, Micro, and Bloom bottles you combine in different ratios by growth stage. Grow Bench covers it as a useful mix guide — what each bottle contributes, how stages change, and how to avoid precipitation mistakes — not as a thin brand-clone or ASIN dump. Other three-part lines follow similar logic; always read your label.

What it is (and isn’t)

It is It isn’t
A three-bottle hydro nutrient system (Grow / Micro / Bloom) A guarantee of miracle yields
A way to tune veg vs bloom ratios The only valid nutrient brand
Common in hobby DWC, NFT, Kratky, drain-to-waste A cannabis-only product (ignore chase marketing)
Something you still pH and measure A substitute for clean reservoirs and light

Who it’s for: Growers who want stage control beyond one-part bottles and will measure milliliters.
Who should skip: Absolute beginners who won’t use a syringe/measuring cup — start with simpler one-part lines on nutrients, then return here.

What each bottle does

Bottle Primary job (plain language) When it dominates
FloraMicro (or Micro-class) Micros + nitrogen contribution; often the “anchor” bottle in GH-style charts Present in most stages; never skip casually
FloraGrow (or Grow-class) Emphasizes vegetative growth (leaf/stem) Seedling→veg / leafy greens focus
FloraBloom (or Bloom-class) Emphasizes flower/fruit support (P/K leaning relative to Grow) Transition and fruiting

Exact NPK on the label matters more than folklore. Micros (iron, etc.) in the Micro bottle are why people are told not to run Grow+Bloom alone without Micro in classic Flora charts.

Ca / Mg note: RO or very soft water often needs extra calcium/magnesium management. Hard tap already carries minerals — measure, don’t stack blindly. See nutrients hub.

Mixing order (avoid precipitate)

Wrong order can cause nutrient lockout / fallout in the jug.

Typical safe pattern many GH-style charts teach:

  1. Start with water in a mixing container.
  2. Add Micro first; stir.
  3. Add Grow and/or Bloom per stage; stir between.
  4. Adjust pH last (often target ~5.5–6.5 for common hydro crops).
  5. Verify PPM/EC; know your meter scale (500 vs 700).

Never mix concentrated bottles together directly in a cup. Never pour undiluted parts into each other.

Mix ratios by stage (orientation — verify label)

Manufacturer charts publish ml per gallon (or tsp) by stage. Labels and region revisions change — treat the table as educational orientation, then match the bottle insert you own.

Stage Pattern (conceptual) Crop examples
Seedling / mild Low total ml; Micro present; gentle Grow Starts, lazy Kratky week 1
Vegetative / greens Grow emphasized vs Bloom; Micro on Lettuce, basil canopy
Transition Grow and Bloom closer to balanced First buds on tomatoes/peppers
Bloom / fruit Bloom emphasized vs Grow; Micro on Tomatoes, fruiting herbs
Late / ripen (optional charts) Some charts shift further Follow your chart if used

Leafy greens often stay in a veg-leaning recipe — you do not need a heavy “bloom bomb” for lettuce. Fruiting crops use the curve intentionally.

Example shape (not a substitute for your label) many hobbyists recognize from Flora-style charts: seedling mixes might land near ~0.25–1 ml/L class total parts combined, veg heavier on Grow, bloom heavier on Bloom — always convert from the printed ml/gallon chart on your bottles.

Meter reminder Tip
PPM Same EC reads different PPM on 500 vs 700 scales
Target bands Lettuce often ~700–1,200 PPM established; fruiting higher per chart
Drift Recheck pH 24 h after mix

Hard water, RO, and add-ons

Water type Watch-outs
RO / distilled Very low minerals — Ca/Mg gaps common; don’t assume Micro alone fixes everything
Soft tap Similar caution
Hard tap Baseline PPM already high — subtract from target; risk of excess Ca/carbonates
Cal-Mag products Use when deficiency evidence or RO habit — not automatic carpet-bombing
Silica / enzymes / “boosters” Optional; easy to overspend; mix compatibility varies

Cost bands (kits, not hype)

Purchase USD band (typical hobby) Note
Small 3-pack starter ~$25–50 Fine for jars / small DWC
Quart 3-pack ~$40–80 Common mid
Gallon set ~$80–150+ Cheaper per gallon if you use volume
pH kit + meter ~$15–50 Non-optional for repeatability

Cost per mixed reservoir matters more than bottle swagger — system cost.

Common mistakes

Mistake Result Direction
Mix concentrates together Precipitate Dilute separately into water
Skip Micro Deficiency patterns Follow chart
Bloom recipe on lettuce Tip burn / waste Stay veg-leaning for greens
Ignore meter scale Over/under feeding Know 500 vs 700
Fix rot with more Flora Salt + dead roots Fix O₂/temp — root rot
Cannabis 12-bottle stack for basil Complexity tax Out of scope here

When to skip three-part

Skip Flora-class complexity if you only run one Kratky jar of lettuce and hate measuring — a quality one-part hydro nutrient is enough. Graduate to three-part when you want veg/fruit dials or you’re tired of one-ratio compromises.

FAQ

What does each Flora Series bottle do?

Micro supplies micros and part of the nitrogen story; Grow leans vegetative; Bloom leans flower/fruit support. Use them together per stage chart — see tables above.

What is the mix ratio for Flora Series?

Follow the ml-per-gallon chart on your bottles for seedling, veg, and bloom. Charts differ by revision; this page teaches the pattern, not a frozen secret recipe.

Can I use Flora Series for lettuce?

Yes — stay on milder, veg-leaning recipes. Guide: hydroponic lettuce.

Do I need Cal-Mag with Flora?

Often with RO/soft water; less automatic with hard tap. Measure and watch plant cues.

Is this an official General Hydroponics manual?

No. Grow Bench is independent. For authoritative ml charts, read the label/insert on your product. We don’t clone brand spam pages.

Do you earn money from Amazon links?

Yes. Shop links to Amazon are affiliate links. If you buy after clicking one, Grow Bench may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Links are labeled, and they don’t change what we recommend or who we tell to skip a product. Details are on our affiliate disclosure page.
